Samuel A. Steinhouse

Sam Steinhouse graduated from the University of Michigan School of Business in 1978, with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He is a Certified Public Accountant(inactive), and his work career has been split between large employers, closely held employers, and his own companies.

His work with large employers included Arthur Andersen & Company Small Business Division, an accounting and consulting services firm focusing on closely held businesses in the construction and hospitality industries. He also worked at Progressive Casualty Insurance Company, serving as Product and Sales Manager for auto insurance programs in four midwestern states.  Steinhouse also led a task team that designed and implemented Progressive’s first automated sales management system.

In his work with closely held employers, Steinhouse has held senior finance and accounting positions in diverse industries including tunnel construction, music retailing, satellite dish manufacturing, and fine hardwood sawmills/dry kiln production.

Steinhouse has also served as principal in several companies including outdoor portable propane heat, indoor gaslight and barbeque replacement part consumer products manufacturing, restaurant cooking equipment repair parts distribution, and residential real estate rental management and sales. He also heads a contract CFO consulting practice, SPS Management Advisers.

Steinhouse recently served as Chief Financial Officer and Operations Manager for Hawken School where he oversaw four campuses serving over 1,500 students.

Steinhouse is the Board Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair of the Cleveland Playhouse. He is also Board Chair of Breakthrough Public Schools, overseeing 5 K-8 schools serving 3000 Cleveland public school students. Steinhouse served as President of the Orange Schools Board of Education for four years.
